Grand Slam by Heidi McLaughlin

Grand Slam

Win the game. Lose your heart.Everyone knows who I am and that I could have any female fan I want. That's supposed to be the "perk" of playing left field for the Boston Renegades. But I don't want just any woman; I want her.She should be just another face in the crowd, but I can't stop thinking about the one night we spent together-and her look of regret the morning after....

Alright so Grand Slam is a sport romance but there is not a lot of baseball talk. The whole plot is about the whirlwind roller coaster romance between Travis and his PR, Saylor. And when I say roller coaster I mean lots of drama, ups and downs, super turbulent relationship.

Alright so Grand Slam is a sport romance but there is not a lot of baseball talk. The whole plot is about the whirlwind roller coaster romance between Travis and his PR, Saylor. And when I say roller coaster I mean lots of drama, ups and downs, super turbulent relationship.

Travis and Saylor’s relationship started a couple years back when they had a one night stand after too many drinks at a party. Travis thought they shared the same attraction and had a great night but the morning after Saylor bolted and has been indifferent with Travis ever since. Travis was confused and hurt but he never got answers or reasons from Saylor. Since then, Travis turned into a man-whore, sleeping his way through half of Boston until he got accused of rape. Travis’ playboy way precedes him so unfortunately to his fans, sponsors, and teammates Travis seems guilty until proven innocent. Saylor was assigned to help clean up Travis’s mess. She believes Travis is innocent. Travis has an alibi but getting his alibi to come forward would be impossible. In the meantime, Travis’s focus isn’t proving his innocence though – he is too busy pursuing Saylor. He never got over Saylor and the feeling is mutual. Saylor is fighting it but Travis is determined to win her heart for good this time. The attraction between Travis and Saylor is undeniable – deep down they care for each other but Saylor has her own set of troubles and she cannot afford to get tangled up with the accused rapist.

I really like Saylor – she is smart, sexy, and strong. I also like Travis and all his alpha male sexiness. He is persistent when it comes to winning Saylor’s heart and he is so sweet with Saylor’s daughter – I adore him for that. However, I have to say I was frustrated that whenever his troubles took turn for the worse, he turns to alcohol resulting in his temper flaring. A couple times, he might have caused more trouble for Saylor. So I did not like the fact that he was not strong for himself or for Saylor, and when shit hit the fan he crumples. That’s his only fault though - I adore the way he is with Saylor and her daughter Lucy. Travis genuinely loves them and takes good care of them. That just melted my heart. I was also hoping for a little more romance and less business between them. Especially at the end, the reasons they got together were like a business transaction – I understand that is the intent of the author though – Saylor and Travis are different and their relationship is anything but conventional. Still it does not change the fact that I am a hopeless romantic so I was hoping for more romance, heart and flowers from them. Honestly though, Grand Slam was a great read – the plot is full of drama which will keep you on your toes and suck you in.

Well written - sexy, sweet, low on sport talk and angst which is fine by me :)

    4.5 Stars!!!

Unlike it's two predecessors, this third book in the Boys of Summer series has less on the field action and more romance and legal drama. Taking place off season plays part in the way the story is shaped. The chemistry between Travis and Saylor leaves you breathless, the realism in each of their situations is frustrating (in a good way) as the author has perfectly conveyed their anguish pertaining to each their situations, separately and combined. I enjoyed their persistence in battling back, and that together they were stronger at beating back their demons...Travis' transformation, from the previous books, is most notable. His one liners which make you laugh out loud are still peppered throughout, but seeing him brought to his knees by his love for Saylor and particularly Lucy, was so very heartwarming. The couple's struggles were gut wrenching, their victories rewarding.

There are still plenty of Renegade players who need their own stories, I can only hope they come with adorable little ones as well. I expect the trademark hilarious banter between the ball players will be back as well, this author has the gift of conveying true male humor.

This book has been provided by the Publisher and Nergalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

    4.5 stars!

Picked this one up planning to read a chapter or two and ended up devouring the whole thing.

Travis *sigh* Iove this guy and my heart hurt for all he went through.

Saylor is quite frustrating character. I could see her POV but I disagreed with some of her choices.

The story is great, plenty of stuff going on to keep you flipping the pages.

The only reason I dropped .5 of a star was I felt the end was kind of rushed. I would have liked some things cleared up.

It's hard to imagine a book that had me biting nails like this one. Both main characters had major anguish and drama that tied them together in ways that always surprised me. I loved the major characters. I rooted for them....so much!!! One of my book of the year and I've read at least 250 so far..so good job, Heidi!!!

    Contemporary. Sports Romance.

Heidi McLaughlin has another fantastic novel with this one. And although it isn't as "sporty" as the previous ones in the series it is still amazing none the less. With that, I picked this book up on a whim today as I was looking for something lighthearted to read on this rainy day. At first, I had no intention to finish it in one sitting, I just wanted something to get lost in for a little while. But WOW. I read it from front to

With that, I picked this book up on a whim today as I was looking for something lighthearted to read on this rainy day. At first, I had no intention to finish it in one sitting, I just wanted something to get lost in for a little while. But WOW. I read it from front to back and I couldn't stop! I had to see how the story and relationship progressed and couldn't put it down until I did. EEPP!!! I am impressed because it has been a while since I was able (and wanted) to do this.

Fans of Heidi McLaughlin (yes, I am one of them) and those who enjoy a swoony romance with some great character backstory should give Grand Slam a try. This is the perfect book to get lost in and fall in love with. I very much recommend it!

Travis is a very well known Boston Renegades baseball player and has a bit of a reputation as a womanizer. This reputation is about to be used against him in the most awful way though. Travis is a very well known Boston Renegades baseball player and has a bit of a reputation as a womanizer. This reputation is about to be used against him in the most awful way though. You’ve seen the gossip mags right? How many times have you seen claims about celebrities being accused of various things like having affairs, fathering children to strangers and relationships with other people – that are all completely made up.

He never thought it would happen to him though. Travis has a huge fan base who love and support him but human nature can be a fickle thing and it’s not too long before people are turning on him, some people only want to believe the negative, sensationalized stories. People quickly forget about the real man, the one who gives generously to charities and volunteers his time to help and mentor others.

There is one person who is standing by him 100%. Saylor is one of his PR company employees, she is also a woman he has slept with in the past, someone he has been harbouring feelings for, for a while now. Unfortunately for Travis, she is not interested in pursuing anything with him. She is a single mum to a beautiful little girl who just wants to focus on her and doing a good job as a parent and in her professional life. Getting involved with a client risks everything she has worked hard for. Here is the thing though… Saylor is also the key to clearing Travis’ name but in doing so she could lose everything.

As Saylor tries to fight her attraction to Travis, her wee daughter Lucy has fallen in love with him, she has never had a father in her life and seeing them together makes Saylor realize just how much her daughter has missed by not having one. However, other things are happening in Saylor's personal life and the risk of being with Travis, outside of their professional relationship becomes impossible to overcome. Travis has never felt so alone, everyone is turning their back on him, any time he feels slightly happy, there is another blow delivered.

Honestly, I was shedding tears for this guy and OMG the angst factor was

the charts! I was completely consumed by this story and could not put it down. I loved all the cute moments between Travis and Lucy. I was sneak reading at work and when I wasn't reading I was thinking about reading, worried about what was going to happen. I freaking love it when that happens, it is books like this that cement my love of reading.

Well, after the last Boys of Summer book, I was a little gun-shy when Grand Slam came through to my Kindle. I hoped that I could get into this one more than the last. And, hoping paid off because the Heidi McLaughlin that I was so used to reading was back. Travis and Saylor’s story was everything that I hoped it would be … and then some.

Wow … that’s all I can say about Travis. The left fielder has everything a man could want except the woman who has been haunting his dreams. He can’t understand

He can’t understand why, after one night with him, she just blows him off. He knows she felt something and that she’s hiding something. Now, she can either be his salvation or his down-fall. She knows the truth. Why won’t she come forward and clear his name?

Saylor has her reasons for avoiding what she could have with Travis. Her daughter, her job and now threats from her baby-daddy has her giving herself to Travis and then pushing him away harder than she did the first time. But, when it finally comes down to it, she comes clean and, now, Travis knows everything. He tells her that he will fix things but she has no idea if his plan will work or if she’s ready for what he’s offering.

    I. Loved. This. Book! It was fast and interesting. It had heart-ache and intrigue. I still don’t know why the “bitch” did what she did but I hope she got her come-uppance. Saylor put me off a little since she wouldn’t come clean with Travis but, in the end, I had her back and so did Travis. I loved that Travis wore his heart on his sleeve and poured himself into getting Saylor to acknowledge her feelings for him. Lucy made this story so believable and fun. She was sweet and knew just who and what she wanted. She wrapped me around her little finger.

Now, the remaining Boys of Summer need to find the woman that will fulfill their lives so they will stop making fun of the boys that are living their happily ever after. And, there are three players who don’t deserve to even be mentioned in any further stories … just saying.

    Grand Slam

    The Boys of Summer #3

    Heidi McLaughlin

Great book by Heidi McLaughlin. I just love sport romances. This was book 3 of her Boys of Summer series.

The main character Travis is a baseball player that has been falsely accused of rape. He falls in love with his publisher, Saylor and her small daughter. But with the backlash from the lies of a woman scorned may screw his opportunities with Saylor.

Thanks NetGalley for the Arc in exchange for my honest review.
